Dr. Atchison,
Thank you for taking the time to look over my Mental Health Project blog. I hope you found it to be valuable and along the lines of what you were looking for. The purpose of this note is to address each of the project's requirements and to give you the location of that information in the blog. Requirements from the assignment are in underlined and in bold, and my notes regarding that information are underneath them in italics:
It must be about a DSM-IV diagnosis unless specifically given permission by me.
I made contact with you through email and was given permission to use Hoarding Disorder as the topic for my project.
It needs to contain information that would be helpful in letting someone with the disorder or someone close to them know they may need to be evaluated.
This information is located under the "Should I Be Evaluated?" tab. It contains a series of questions that indicate some of the symptoms of hoarding that may be evident. There are links and descriptions to three different tests that can give the reader an idea if further evaluation may be needed, and it also contains an extensive video from hoarding expert Dr. Randy Frost that gives a great deal of information, including symptoms.
It needs to contain information about possible etiology (causes) of the disorder.
This information is under the "Causes" tab at the top of the page.
It must address the prevalence of the disorder in the population.
This information can be found at the top of the graphic under the "Quick Facts" tab.
It must address the expected course of the disorder if left untreated.
This information is available under the "Why Seek Help?" tab.
It must contain information about treatments that have evidence to be effective in treating the disorder.
This is available under the "Treatment" tab at the top of the page.
It must contain a section with real local contact information for sufferers.
The tab entitled "Local Resources" has links and contact information for a variety of organizations that would be helpful to a person with Hoarding Disorder. There is also a tab labeled "Online and Distance Resources" that contains links and contact information for non-local resources.
It should be presented in a readable, understandable and attractive format.
I hope that you find the blog format both easy to get to and easy to navigate around. I have included a blog section with a few posts that give an idea of the kind of information that I would continue to add if I were going to further develop the website.
The title of this blog, More than Just Junk, is intended to show empathy towards those suffering with Hoarding Disorder. I want readers to know that, as the author of the page, I understand that the things they have amassed in their homes are not just trash to them. I want them to know that I understand that just throw it away is oversimplified and not very valuable advice.
There are other sections not mentioned above, including an "About" and a "Bibliography" section. I think these are fairly self-explanatory, but I will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about them or any other features of the blog.
If there is anything else you need from me, please do not hesitate to let me know.
Sincerely,
Jeff Davis
